We are very interested in the Wainwright case as it was the most notorious Whitechapel murder until Jack came along, and involved a very respectable brushmaker!
The 1871 census shows Henry and his family at 40 TredegarSquare and he is shown as a brushmaker employing 103 men, women and boys.
He has a wife, Elizabeth, 30, young children and two servants.
As a genealogical society we wonder what happened to the two children (according to theTimes of the day) that Wainwright had with Harriet Lane.
For a while they called themselves Percy and Mrs King a
Were the children registered as King or Wainwright? Were they registered at all?
The Times says his family lived at School House Lane in Chingford at the time of the police investigation.
It was never actually determined who killed Harriet, but it was said that Thomas dismembered her body. I think that Henry may have taken the blame for the murder as he had nothing left to live for. He was disgraced, had lost his lover and estranged his family but his brother still had a life to return to if he was not found guilty of the murder. Thomas was found guilty of "Accessory to Murder after the event (de facto)" and was given 7 years..

Dear ALL,
Edward William FRIEAKE (Teddy)was my Great, Great Uncle. Born 26.12.1842(Boxing Day) and lived at 10, Handley Road, Victoria Park Road, South Hackney at the time of the murder. He also stayed at his Fathers ( George Roberts Frieake 1800 - 1880) business address and his home at 31, Coburn Street, Bethnal Green and 11, Coleman Street, Bank, London. He was indeed an Auctioneer and after the Wainwright case changed his name as did his two brothers Samuel Henry Frieake and John Albert Frieake to Pond and Clifford. Apparently he was extremely annoyed that Wainwright used his name(This information is in our family Bible). Not much more is written about Edward and his death is unrecorded.
